Berlin
Psychogeographical drifting
Our goal was to explore Berlin from a new perspective, breaking away from our usual ways of navigating the city. By drifting without a planned route, we let the environment guide our direction. Through this, we aimed to discover hidden spaces, experience unexpected elements, and develop a deeper connection with the city itself.
Berlin Explore Rules
- If you find an old Benz, move in the opposite direction of the car’s front.
- If you find a Döner restaurant, turn right.
- If you find an empty bottle, ask a stranger where to go next.
- If you find a dog, follow the dog until you find another object that aligns with the rest of the rules.
Collective Confusion
When two or more rules applied at the same time, we found ourselves confused about which rule to follow. Eventually, we decided to merge them into a new “multi-rule” and follow that instead. Losing our sense of direction was a mysterious experience. Wandering in unfamiliar streets without knowing where we were going created a sense of uncertainty, yet it also heightened our focus on the rules, communication with teammates, and overall sense of connection.
I usually prefer structured travel, deciding where to go in advance and following a plan. However, this experience changed my perspective—I realized that wandering aimlessly in an unfamiliar city could be just as exciting and could lead to beautiful, unexpected outcomes.
