Interpretative Instrument

Light-sound-space installation

Trailer 0:40

Interpretative Instrument explores the relationship between perception, memory, interpretation, and presence. Through this exploration, the work invites visitors to reconsider how they perceive reality and how they continuously construct the present moment.

The Present Is Constructed

Life is realized through personal perception and interpretation, based on space, light, sound, and movement. The present moment is not given to you. It is constructed continuously. You need reference points. You need the relative difference, the change, the distance between yourself and everything else. Without these measurements, without this constant input of new information, you cannot define where you are. The moment external stimulus stops—the moment light, sound, and movement disappear—you lose your coordinates in time. You cease to exist in the present. Three different physical sensing elements keep you anchored: space, light, sound, and movement. They pin you into the coordinates of the now. They create the relative reference points that allow you to define the present.
